Changing the Display Order for Categories and Subcategories in OpenCart

Working with categories in OpenCart store, over some time you may need to reorganize the way they are listed. Setting sort order you can control how your categories are displayed. This way you can improve the site navigation for your customers as well as contribute to easier shop administering via back-end.

The following tutorial will show how to set the sort order for OpenCart categories and how it affects the menus.

Changing Sort Order in Category Tree

If you log in to your back-end, category list can be viewed and managed via Catalog -> Categories tab. There you will see all your categories and subcategories and a column for their sort order in the front of each category.

As you can see, the list shows you 20 categories per page, making it a little bit difficult to see the whole picture of how the category tree looks like. Thus it might be hard to look for related parent and subcategories belonging to them and define position for each.
