Print OpenCart Receipts and Invoices
When the customer is placing order in your OpenCart online store, you need to process purchase and provide to client back invoice or receipt. Both of these confirmation documents on transaction are important for accounting.
In this article it will be dwelled upon the difference between those sales documents and how to print OpenCart receipts and invoices, adjusting their contents.
OpenCart: Receipt VS Invoice
Oftentimes the terms have been used interchangeably so that for some people they denote the same. However, there is a slight difference between the notions, eCommerce entrepreneurs should be aware of.
In most cases OpenCart invoice ia an A4 list of products or services provided by the seller to the customer, along with prices, discounts, taxes and total amount. It also includes business contact information with the seller and buyer’s shipping details.
OpenCart receipt lists goods or services purchased, prices, discount, taxes, total amount paid. POS receipts from cash registers that you can get in shops or petrol stations, have complete seller’s contact information, but in most cases limited buyer’s information. Moreover, receipts are often printed on thermal paper with reduced width (58, 80 mm etc).
Invoices are used to help control inventory and facilitate delivery of goods and services. Receipts are used to prove that buyers paid for an items, especially in situations of return.
So as you see, these purchase documents are used for different purposes. If you are selling online along with brick-and-mortar shops, it a a good idea to adopt both accounting docs depending on the situation.
Print OpenCart Invoice
Default Opencart invoice is available via the Dashboard. Navigate to Latest Orders section.
There you will see options to generate and print invoice.
You will be able to use it ‘as is’, generating and printing invoices for each order one-by-one. If you would like to print invoices for a number of orders in bulk, Store Manager for OpenCart application may be helpful.
The software allows to massively print sales doc for multiple orders at once in 2 clicks: simply by selecting necessary orders and clicking ‘Invoice’ button.
Print OpenCart Receipts On Thermal Printer
If you need to print OpenCart receipt instead of invoice via till printer to provide buyer a check, you can use Store Manager for OpenCart too, since in admin panel this options is not included.
To print your receipts via the app, you need to follow a few steps:
- Configure till printer to use for checks. To do so, go to Preferences (F12) -> Receipt Options tab.
- Choose orders you would like to print your receipts for.
- Press ‘Receipt’ button in the toolbar and preview your receipts.There you can save or print them right away.
There select your printer and receipt format (width in mm).
Change Template of OpenCart Receipts and Invoices
OpenCart doesn’t provide an option to customize invoice template via admin panel. If you want to be sure that your receipts and invoices are attractive and contain necessary into, consider modifying their templates used in Store Manager.
In case you want it’s layout to be slightly adjusted per your requirements and you have skills for this, to do so you need to access the following directory:
C:\Users\maria\AppData\Local\eMagicOne Store Manager for OpenCart\Custom_Reports
There find the folder corresponding to the name of document you want to edit template for. You can modify the look of template using external program called Fast Report.
