How To Add OpenCart Filters

Having a big number of goods on your OpenCart-based website, it is convenient to give your customers the possibility to flexibly filter merchandize depending on their requirements. To narrow down the search of goods by specific criteria, Store Manager offers Filters functionality on category page available at user’s disposal. This will ease the search of the wanted items, even if they are placed in different categories.
OpenCart filters are available in Store Manager for OpenCart starting from 2.5.0 version.
What To Start With?
OpenCart Filters are not available by default and to start using this for advanced search within your store, you should go to Extensions ---> Extensions and find Modules from the dropdown. Onwards, scroll down to find the Filter module in the list and once you find it - hit the Install button.
After installation, you have to enable the module via Edit button.
Once you are done with activation, the next step demands to make filters be displayed on the storefront. To do so, go to Design -----> Layouts ----> Category.
Press Edit button and add Filter module position in the left column, as it is depicted on the screenshot below.
Now, you can proceed with filters management via Store Manager.
How To Create OpenCart Filter Groups And Values
In order to start working with OpenCart filters in Store Manager - go to corresponding section on the toolbar.
The window on the left offers to create Filter Group - if you want to assort item filters by some specification. For example, you have categories, named “Cameras” and “Lenses”. And, for instance, you want to create filters to combine them by manufacturer - “Nikon” and “Canon”, so both of product groups could be achieved when customer is searching goods by brand.
Start creating new filter group via Add button on the toolbar. Further, fill in the required information in the Edit window on the right.
If for some reasons you want to modify or remove OpenCart filter group, you can perform the mentioned operation via the corresponding buttons available on the toolbar. If you want to change sort order group should be displayed in, you can determine it in the Edit form. Once you are done - move forward to the next step - add Filter values.
If you have multiple languages, available in your OpenCart store, you can name values in different languages directly in the window where you create them.
Define order for added values you want them to be placed in.
Further step requires to connect created filter group and its values with the needed categories and products via Link option.
Whenever you select particular Filter Value and press Link, you will see an opened window, that displays the list of your OpenCart store categories and products, that can be connected to current filter.
The Search form allows to quickly find the necessary goods for assignment.
First of all, you have to select the category, that will be assigned to filter and add it to the list, so you can see them in the Categories window.
After that, you can define what exact products will be assigned to filter you are creating the same way, you did with categories. You may select several products at once, that makes the process more fast and convenient.
You also have the possibility to determine their view with within the windows with the help of grid view and list view buttons.
If you have changed your mind and want to eliminate previously added products - you can remove one, several or all of them.
Add Product Attributes For OpenCart Filter Suggestions
During the process of assigning OpenCart filter values to products and categories with Store Manager, you will also see the Suggestions option near Categories and Products.
What is it responsible for? It allows to simplify store management with the possibility to get the list of products, which attribute name and value coincide with filter group and its value to further adding them to filters. This is convenient for merchants, who have, lots of merchandize with similar attributes.
For example, you want to create filter group called “Color” and its value called “Black”. To receive the list of products for suggestions, that can be included to filters, attribute name should be called “Color” with the attribute text “Black”.
Attribute text can be added manually in the Attributes tab in the lower grid of certain OpenCart product.
In case you want to add OpenCart filters to products or categories immediately being in Categories&Products section - fall back upon the Quick Add option, that is approachable in both sections..
