How to Find OpenCart Products Not Assigned to Any Category
The owners of online stores categorize their products, gathering goods on the basis of some criteria to create some structure and hierarchy.
Why You Need to Link Products to Categories?
This not only makes management of OpenCart goods easier for store owner in back-office, but greatly contribute to better navigation of shoppers visiting your web-site.
Smartly organized category tree with goods linked to it, is the first thing a customer will refer to while browsing through the content of your online shop. This is especially for the cases when the shopper came across of your web-store for the first time or he/she is still on the stage of evaluating: not sure what to buy, but wants to see what you have on offer.
So in case some of your OpenCart products are not assigned to any category, you have very small chances that they will be found and ordered from you. Naturally, this is not acceptable and you have to take appropriate actions to find such products and associate them to at least one category at your catalog.
How to Detect Goods with No Categories?
As in OpenCart ‘Category’ is not required field while creating the product, there might occur the situation that you can miss to select categories for products by mistake when filling new product details.
Manually checking if each product has category is not the option, when you have got thousands of products. You can’t get the list of products without category selected from OpenCart admin screen, so you will need either to run some MySQL query to bulk check if you have products without categories or use solution that allows you to see these goods with minimum efforts and without special technical skills required.
Store Manager for OpenCart is exactly such a tool. It will help you to check if you have ‘orphan’ products in seconds.
You have to follow a few simple steps:
1) Open Categories&Products tab of Ribbon menu.
If “Products from selected categories” filter is chosen, on the left you will see category tree and on the right products assigned to them. It is very convenient, as all information is in one place - no need to switch between pages.
2) Select “All products view” filter to see all goods of your catalog. Make sure that product View is set to “All” to see all the goods at one page.
3) Click on the header of ‘Category’ row. The goods will be sorted by category in ascending or descending order. So at the beginning or at the bottom of product listing you will see the products with empty record for categories (if there are any).
In order to make these products available in category hierarchy, you need to set location for each product. To assign goods to categories and subcategories in bulk, read related article -
